(Last Friday, 15 people including 9 high school students left for Haiti. Jim Clark is the team leader for the trip. Here are his remarks as they get ready to leave Haiti and head home.)

Friday morning, 6:00am on the porch of the compound here in Haiti. The sun has been up for an hour. The farmers are heading to their fields. The livestock has been moved to their daily grazing spots. The roosters have crowed on the hour all night. In other words, it’s another typical day on the beautiful island. We are in our last few hours here for this trip, which is the 4th team that FBC has sent here.

Another great week, the team, especially the students, hit home runs every day. Hundreds have had a meal. The word of God was also heard by hundreds. A lot of seeds have been sown for God to cultivate. I know what has happened this week will make a difference.

Two things really come to mind for me. First, I was reminded by our students that we are sometimes afraid to pray BIG. God asks, no, He commands us to seek Him in all we do. But I find it is easy to be lazy in our Christian walk for many reasons and excuses. But lazy is not what He demanded of us that have been washed in the life-giving blood of Christ. We must be bold. We must accept the challenge to not be ashamed of the gift that God gave us through His son.

The second thing is a scripture we read during a devotion. “You have not because you ask not.” When we pray, and we must pray, we must pray for the kingdom of God to come down on all and believe and know that it will be done. We need to pray more like Jesus on his last night before he was crucified. We must call on God with every fiber in our souls.

This week again has humbled me, reminded me that I am so blessed. I have had the chance to watch our students grow. These are truly special young people with the passion to serve God. As we leave here today, we leave a little behind. But each of us takes away more that we leave. It has been a great week. Praise God. Pray for us and these Haitians that we leave behind as we head home.
