Today was a very good, but very busy day.
It started for me @ 5am with coffee and a couple of hours in my study preparing for the day. Attendance was good in our two services and I spoke with several guests. One couple just moved here from Florida and today was their first time. Another new couple asked me about officiating at their wedding later this year. I walked one teenager attending for the first time on Sunday morning over to The Rock. I love meeting the new people God is bringing to us.
The choir did a great job @ 9:10. Based on the applause and praise, I think the congregation was blessed by it also.
Two young couples joined FBC @ 10:30. One of them I met for the first time Friday night @ the young adult game night. The other I’ve known for 3 or 4 years. The husband worked with us on a project and then I met his wife one night at Target while they were shopping. We talked, they started attending, and it has been fun watching them grow. They’ve accepted Christ as Savior and will be baptized.
After lunch, I preached at Iris Hughes funeral. It’s always sad when someone dies, but why this is in the highlights is because Iris was a 92 yr old saint who was gracious, classy, and loving to the very end. When you are the kind of person she was, it’s “easy” to preach their funeral because they give you so much good material to work with. Knowing her was a highlight.
Then Sunday evening we had “Dinner with the Pastor” and five couples attended. All five decided to join FBC and will be introduced to the congregation next Sunday. We had a fun Q&A time, with a few questions I had never been asked before.
In closing – remember what I said this morning. If you don’t invite someone who needs Jesus to come to worship with you next Sunday, you will leave the service with regrets. You’ll leave thinking to yourself, “I wish so and so could have been here to hear and see that.” I don’t want you to leave with regrets. So get busy and begin inviting people. It is going to be a great day.
