Sunday was an interesting, yet blessed day. As those who attended our 9:10 service know, I locked the keys to my truck inside the truck with it running and my Bible, sermon notes, suit coat, brief case, lap top, etc also inside. I also didn’t have a spare key available. So I drove to the church in a backup car without those items, making arrangements as I drove for a lock smith to meet Monieca at the house and open the truck. I arrived as the service was starting and grabbed another Bible, scribble a few notes and preached.
Then in the middle of that sermon a strange musical sound blared through the PA system for a few seconds. Maybe I need this to happen more often since four adults joined the church when the invitation was given in that service. I appreciate everyone praying for me and the service – the Lord did bless us. By the way – the lock smith arrived in a timely fashion and unlocked the truck.
During the second service I had my Bible and sermon notes (Monieca brought them to me), but I personally think the sermon may have been better at 9:10 am.
It was exciting to watch nearly 300 women come to the altar and commit to pray for God to give us $6 million dollars in six years by picking up a key chain, which will now prompt them to pray each time they reach for their keys. We now have 300 women with key chains and 300 men with coins – that is a lot of people praying for God to do something great.
The sermon focused on the benefits of being a generous giver, something a lot of people never think about. If you missed yesterday, you can watch or listen to the message at www.fbcrockhill.org/messages.
Remember that this coming Sunday is when we make our commitments to the “Six in 6” capital campaign. Spend this week praying and asking God to give you peace about how much He wants you to give over the next three years. Also choose one day this week to fast and seek God. Here is a link to our fasting guide. And here is a link to our vison statement and purpose for the campaign.
Last night’s “Giving Ourselves to God” prayer event was a powerful time of personal worship and seeking God. It was like a holy hush fell over much of the campus as believers stood, sat, walked, and knelt in prayer at various prayer stations. Something unique happens when we have a conversation with God by meditating over verses of Holy Scripture and then answering what God says to us in those verses when we pray. I am thankful for each person who came out to pray. Check out the photograph below.
The youth enjoyed a game night, and laser tag was the big hit. They had a good crowd and based on the photographs on social media, they had a blast. Check out the photos on the church’s Facebook and instagram accounts.
By the way, a great and easy way to keep up in real time with all that goes on at FBC is through instagram. You can follow me at STEVE_HOGG, the church at FBC_RH, and our youth ministry at FBCRHYOUTH. There is also a lot of information on the church’s Facebook page.
Finally, I continue to hear from so many people who are being deeply touched and changed by the Lord as they spend time with God each day using the “Draw the Circle” devotional. Youth workers are telling me even the high school students are getting into it. Yesterday I spoke with a woman who was able to spend three hours explaining what it means to be “born again” with her Buddhist neighbor. I spoke with a mother who was excited that her son came to church for the first time in 11 years. I spoke with another mom who was excited because a child who had withdrawn from the family was beginning to reach out to them. I heard about a man facing an uphill battle with cancer who has incredible peace. I wish I had time to tell you all the stories, but people are praying and God is answering. So keep praying.
