I started my day by praying through Proverbs 18. I try to pray through one chapter of scripture a day. God uses this to keep me right with Him. It is impossible to pray over God’s word and not be affected by it. As I prayed through each of the verses this morning, I came to verse 22. It reads, “He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord.” I gave God thanks for Monieca and was reminded that only Jesus is a greater blessing to my life than my wife.
Speaking of Monieca, I had the privilege of sitting with her during worship today. That is a rarity for us. Just one more reason I’m glad Richard Blackaby preached this morning.
Richard Blackaby’s message reminded us that we can be active at church and faithful in our duties without being close to Jesus. The evidence that we are abiding in Him…really close to Him…is whether or not His JOY is visible in our lives. I found his message both encouraging and challenging.
While it wasn’t a highlight, I can’t write about today without mentioning that it was “time change Sunday.” I like gaining an hour each November, but I don’t enjoy losing it each March. I told Richard Blackaby that my experience today convinced me to invite a guest speaker for “time change Sunday” next year as well.
I was encouraged by the number of people who want to be part of the “Fresh Encounter” small groups. The groups will kick off this Wednesday with everyone gathering in the worship center at 6:30 PM for an orientation, then head to our groups. Even if you haven’t signed up, join us Wednesday. You’ll get all the information you need at the orientation.
