John 14-15 includes several verses where Jesus discussed the Holy Spirit with His disciples shortly before His arrest and crucifixion. This week’s devotions will focus on what He said and what we can learn from it.
Read John 14:16-17
“I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.”
Having read these verses for three days in a row, what is God trying to say to you?

Answer these questions:
- Jesus referred to the Holy Spirit as the “Spirit of truth.” Jesus sometimes referred to Himself as the truth and said that He speaks the truth. Why does it matter that the Holy Spirit, like Jesus, only speaks the truth?
- In John 8:44 Jesus says there is not truth in the devil, because it is his nature to lie and every time he speaks he is lying. How remarkable is this difference between the Holy Spirit and the devil? What difference can it make in our lives?
- Why do so many Christians listen to the devil instead of listening to the Holy Spirit? Why would anyone listen to the devil?
- Are there times you don’t listen to the Holy Spirit? Why?
After answering these questions, write or verbalize a personal prayer to God.

Praying for our church:
We are seeking God’s wisdom for dealing with five specific challenges our church is facing.
Today please pray for God’s wisdom in dealing with the following challenge:
- How can we develop more leaders and what is the role of our pastors in this process?
Pray for this Sunday’s worship services, especially the invitation, and ask the Holy Spirit to speak so powerfully that the devil is drowned out and every person in attendance both hears and obeys the Spirit’s voice.
