Our annual tradition on Mother’s Day at FBC is something I look forward to and this year was no different. It’s beautiful to watch hundreds of kids of all ages giving a carnation to their mom during our worship services. Moms cry and kids smile. It’s a neat way to recognize moms on their special day.

But this year the highlight of our worship services for me was unexpected. It happened when we sang Chris Tomlin’s song “Jesus Son of God” just before the message in our 10:30 am service. The words are powerful and the melody is moving.

“You came down, from heaven’s throne
This earth You formed, was not Your home
A love like this, the world had never known
A crown of thorns, to mock your name
Forgiveness fell upon Your face
A love like this, the world had never known

On the altar of our praise
Let there be no higher name
Jesus Son of God
You laid down Your perfect life
You are the sacrifice
Jesus Son of God
You are Jesus Son of God

You took our sin
You bore our shame
You rose to life
You defeated the grave
A love like this, the world has never known”

Knowing that moms love their families with a sacrificial and giving love helped me understand just how great Jesus’ love really is. He made the ultimate sacrifice for us and the song is right…”love like this, the world has never known.” A mom’s love, great as it is, cannot compare to Jesus’ love. God used today and this song to remind me that His grace really is amazing and for that reminder I am thankful.
