Sunday’s sermon focused on lessons from the Wise Men, who responded with positive action when they saw the star God placed in the sky. They said “yes” to God’s prompting. Not everyone does!

He was a middle aged man who attended worship most Sundays at the small rural church I served in Kentucky years ago. His face revealed an inner struggle as he literally clung to the pew in front of him when we sang the traditional invitation hymn after the sermon. God was prompting him to commit his life to Jesus and part of him was resisting.

I sat in his house one evening, answering questions and explaining how to have a personal relationship with Jesus. He cried, but again he said “no.”

Not everyone is as wise as the Wise Men of that first Christmas. They said “yes” and gained eternal life. Saying “no” when God prompts us to action is never wise.

We all know people who need to say “yes” to Jesus. We can help them by doing some specific things this week before Christmas. We can pray for them, serve them, invite them to worship on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, share our faith story with them, or be their friend.

Let God use you this week as He prompts people who need Him to take a step on their journey to faith. Now that would be a great way to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas.
