Sunday afternoon was tough. I officiated at the funeral of a 36 year old husband and father of four who died from an accident Wednesday evening. He was also a son, brother, grandson, uncle, cousin, and friend. Those who loved him are hurting and life will never be the same for them. His death was so unexpected, yet so final. During the service his dad shared with us that at the hospital that evening he thought to himself, “I can’t turn back the clock.”

Proverbs 27:1 says, “Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth.” At no point during Wednesday did any of this young man’s family think that would be his last day. But it was and the clock of eternity continues to tick.

In my message I challenged those in attendance to not get so busy with life that they neglect their relationship with family. After all, we have no assurance of tomorrow. I also challenged them to not neglect their relationship with God because one never knows when He is going to see God.

Two decades ago I baptized that young man when he was a young teenager. A few years later I officiated his wedding. Sunday I preached at his funeral. It’s hard to put in words all I feel as I write this, so let me simply end with this…

Life is precious. Don’t waste it.
