Today begins the first day of the last week of our vacation and we’ll spend it with Jacqueline’s family and also take a day trip to Venice before catching our flight home Thursday. So I thought I’d write a post each day this week reflecting on some of the things we’ve enjoyed. I’ll also share some more photographs.
When I asked Monieca what she had enjoyed most she quickly replied, “Being here for Lilianna’s birth.” We’ve also enjoyed playing with Liam and being able to help Jacqueline and Evan with chores while they adjust to having a new born baby in the house.
A major study recently concluded that one of the major regrets of many elderly people is their failure to maintain close relationships with their extended family while they were young adults raising their kids and making money. While many of them changed course in later years, too many years had been lost. It was a regret they could not really fix.
God tells us in the Bible that people matter and relationships make life special. I love it when research affirms what God has already told us.
Because of this trip Lilianna will always know we were there for her birth and Liam will always know we spent a lot of money to fly to Italy to see him – yes, he knows it costs a lot of money to fly across the ocean. Spending a week with Jacqueline’s family has been a blessing and we’ll never regret we did it.
None of us want to reach the golden years of life and regret how we spent our youth…or how we related to our family. So let’s do all we can now to love the people in our lives…and spend time with them.
I look forward to seeing you Sunday @ First Baptist Church.
