The past week has been incredible, both in my personal life and ministry.
On Thursday (2-18) I had the privilege of participating in the CNN Presidential Town Hall in Columbia, where I asked Jeb Bush a question about faith. I had wanted to ask Donald Trump that question. The evening was very informative and I’m grateful we live in a country where citizens can ask presidential candidates questions. I also wanted to use this brief opportunity to do more than ask a question – I wanted to positively share the gospel. Thus, I mentioned that I became a follower of Jesus as a teenager and that decision changed me.
Then last Sunday (2-21) we introduced 30 new members to our FBC Family of Faith. God is bringing some talented people to part of our ministry at FBC and it’s exciting. Many of them are already serving and getting involved.
That evening I drove to Charleston so I could take Jacqueline to the hospital on Monday to receive her second chemo infusion. While I hate that she needs chemo, I’m proud of her how she is handling it and thankful that God is blessing her. The side effects have been minimal so far. I got to spend the afternoon with her family, which was fun.
Then there was yesterday (2-28). God blessed our baptism celebration beyond my prayers. During this joint service, just over 1,200 people witnessed 37 brothers and sisters in Christ be baptized. Husbands and wives, parents and children, brothers and sisters, young and old, black and white – it was amazing. The diversity of backgrounds and stories reminded us that God really does love everyone and Jesus really did die for everyone. Another five adults joined our church yesterday by transfer of letter and several more people are planning to be baptized in the weeks to come.
Last night’s Sunday School Banquet with Allan Taylor was outstanding. Talk about being challenged, inspired, and convicted all at the same time – and loving it. A great evening! I’m thankful for the 300 Sunday School leaders who attended and for Steve Polk planning this training event.
Jacqueline and her family spent the weekend with us because Evan was scheduled to fly from Charlotte Saturday to Italy to finalize his transfer to Charleston and arrange for their furniture to be shipped to the states. Our niece, Andrea, was also with us and it was great to spend time with all of them. Sunday afternoon Liam, who proudly tells anyone who listens he will turn six in a week, and I shot hoops and wandered through the woods. That may have been the best part of my week. I know it was the most peaceful part of it.
This week I’m at the beach on a study retreat and would appreciate your prayers. These scheduled times away from everything to be alone with the Lord are increasingly essential to my spiritual well-being. Extended times to listen to God are a great blessing to me as a Pastor and I thank you for allowing me to do this.

Sunday was an incredible day from beginning to end — from the outpouring of Holy Spirit in the morning, all the professions of faith, seeing people’s lives beginning to be transformed, the choirs beautiful offertory, being moved to tears with joy for what God is doing at FBC to the terrific Sunday School training. Bragging on my Sunday School class– Bill Williams counted 18 of our members there. Holy Spirit is alive and on the move in my Sunday School class and from what Alan Taylor said our class is right on target. We left with some great ideas. Praise Jesus for an awesome day!

Thanks Steve for being a good person and letting the Holy Spirit guide you My life has not been right since I left the church as part time custodian. I am trying to put myself on a right course. Please pray for me. I am a sinner.
