Preaching is one of my passions.  I’ve been preaching since God called me when I was 17 years old.  That was 43 years ago and I’m still passionate about it.  I want to get better at it, so I read and observe and keep learning.

A few years ago I began scheduling on my calendar three weeks a year for study retreats.  These are times when I seek God and focus without interruption on hearing from Him.  I study and pray and listen.  I plan and read and think.

I wish I had done this years earlier.  I wish more churches supported their pastor the way FBC supports me and allows me the time with God I need to be the preacher and leader He wants me to be.  I’m grateful!

Our staff is helping me finds ways to connect what I’m preaching with our ministry priorities, church purpose, ministry plans, and the needs in our congregation.  We recently spent half a day brainstorming the needs and issues facing our church and its members.  Very helpful!

You can help.  How?  By praying for me – right now.  My greatest need is the inspiration and direction of the Holy Spirit.  Please – pray!

Thank you for this. I’ve been thinking about taking a writing retreat for myself. Time away, alone, to think, pray, and write. With the hustle and bustle of work and family, it’s sometimes difficult for me to slow down and reflect. I think I will plan myself a weekend away. Thank you, and praying the Lord will give you direction and inspiration in the name of Jesus.
