Pastor’s Blog: Suffering

November 11, 2015 By Steve Hogg 3 Comments

Life isn’t always easy.  Eventually we all experience suffering.  Monieca and I are praying for our daughter as she battles breast cancer.  Last week I prayed with two women in our church who are also dealing with breast cancer.  Next week I’m having lunch with another Pastor whose wife has pancreatic cancer.  In recent days… Read More »

Chapter Eight

October 26, 2015 By Steve Hogg 1 Comment

A book could be written about this chapter of John’s gospel, but I’m going to focus my comments on four things. One, the story of the woman caught in adultery. After her accusers have left, Jesus says to her in verse 11: “I do not condemn you, either. Go. From now on sin no more.”… Read More »

Danny Lotz Died

August 21, 2015 By Steve Hogg Leave a Comment

Danny Lotz played basketball for the University of North Carolina and was a member of the UNC undefeated 1957 national championship team. He was a dentist and a Christian. He was also married to Anne Graham Lotz, daughter of evangelist Billy Graham. He died earlier this week at age 78. What caught my attention was… Read More »

Sunday Highlights 1.25.2015

January 25, 2015 By Steve Hogg Leave a Comment

I really enjoyed seeing God at work in so many lives today. Already several people have told me they plan to lose weight with me in 2015. In case you missed it, today’s sermon in the “Living Life Without Regrets” series dealt with taking care of our body and mind. You’ll recall that according to… Read More »

Grief and Grace

October 8, 2014 By Steve Hogg Leave a Comment

Losing a loved one is hard. Losing a spouse is a really hard. Losing a spouse unexpectedly at a young age is even harder. To help those who experience such loses, Stewart Smith leads GriefShare @ FBC. Earlier this week I was leaving the office late one evening when I bumped into one of our… Read More »

Goodbyes

October 13, 2013 By Steve Hogg Leave a Comment

“Bye.” Liam repeated that word several times from the front porch where we were standing as Steven and Sara got in their car and drove away. They were heading home to Columbia after having said their goodbyes to Evan, Jacqueline, and Liam who are returning to Italy later this week. He waved in their direction… Read More »

Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash and Marty Stuart

February 13, 2013 By Steve Hogg Leave a Comment

It was a story and a song that touched my emotions. Saturday evening Monieca and I attended a Marty Stuart concert with Duncan and Jan Futrelle. It was a blast listening to some of the most talented musicians on the planet play guitars. Stuart sang a song he had written as a tribute to Johnny… Read More »

A Soldier’s Funeral

June 25, 2012 By Steve Hogg Leave a Comment

I’m not sure how old I was. A young kid of seven or eight I suppose. What I do remember is the house was less than two miles from my home. It was small and the family didn’t have much. I can’t remember their names but I can picture the scene in my head. It… Read More »

False Hope

Read the following Bible verse several times: Proverbs 11:7 “When a wicked man dies, his expectation will perish, and the hope of strong men perishes.” Having read this verse several times, what is God saying to you? _____________________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________________ Answer these questions: The strongest man on earth cannot prevent death from eventually calling his name.… Read More »

Death is Coming

May 31, 2012 By First Baptist Church Rock Hill Leave a Comment

Read the following Bible verses from the book of Psalms several times: Psalm 89:48 “What man can live and not see death? Can he deliver his soul from the power of Sheol?” Psalm 116:15 “Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of His godly ones.” Having read this verse several times, what… Read More »
