When Monieca was six months pregnant with Steven, we experienced a very scary night.
While visiting family in Kentucky she started bleeding and we rushed her to the hospital. After an initial examination the Doctor’s words did little to comfort us. It was late Friday night when I took her mom and sister home, then drove to my parents’ house to sleep a couple of hours and take a shower before returning to the hospital early the next morning for more tests. It was about 2:00 am when I rang their doorbell. After sharing with them what had happened, mom caught me off guard by asking: “She isn’t going to lose the baby, is she?”
I couldn’t speak. I simply collapsed in the chair beside me and cried. That’s when I felt it – my dad’s hand on my back. He didn’t say anything. He just touched me.
Thinking about it all these years later still causes my eyes to become moist.
His touch was comforting. It spoke of love. It meant I wasn’t alone.
Since then I’ve loved the following verse in the Old Testament:
Isaiah 41:10
10 “Do not fear, for I am with you;
Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you, surely I will help you,
Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”
I can’t think of a better place to be than in the hand of God. His touch is comforting and gives us courage. His hand is kind and helps us walk through the darkest days of life. His hand always outstretched to His children.
When your heart is heavy and you’re not certain how to pray, let His hand touch you.
