Haiti 2013 – On The Ground

June 22, 2013 By Jamie Burdette Leave a Comment

Saturday came early for everyone on the Haiti mission team. We met at the church parking lot at 2:45am, loaded the church bus and headed to Charlotte. Surprisingly, our team of 18 was first in line at the American counter. In fact, we were there before the counter was open. But promptly at 4:00am, we… Read More »

A Letter, A Question, And A Bed

June 20, 2013 By Steve Hogg Leave a Comment

I received a letter from an elderly saint who faithfully watches the broadcast of our worship services on the local cable network each Sunday evening. She expressed her appreciation for the sermons and congratulated me on losing weight before asking me this question, “By the way did you make up the bed before Monday?” In… Read More »

Two Fun Days

June 14, 2013 By Steve Hogg Leave a Comment

Monieca and I enjoyed a picnic at Landsford Canal a few weeks ago, but were disappointed we didn’t get to see the Spider Lilies in bloom. Heavy rains and high water in the Catawba River had covered the lilies, washing away the blooms. While the water had receded, the damage had been done. Park rangers… Read More »

Congratulations Graduates

June 6, 2013 By Steve Hogg Leave a Comment

Our church hosted the annual baccalaureate service for the 2013 graduates of Rock Hill High School last night, something we’ve done for a number of years. David Mitchell and Will Beaty took the lead in coordinating this service with a group of the graduates and they did an especially good job this year. Shelton Sanford… Read More »

Ring Those Bells

May 30, 2013 By Steve Hogg Leave a Comment

During last night’s worship service, leaders from the Salvation Army presented an award to FBC for being the top group (all churches, civic organizations, institutions, etc) in the tri-county region for ringing the bell at their kettle stations during the Christmas season. You’ll remember we covered both entrances to the Wal-Mart at the mall each… Read More »

Killed in the Line of Duty

May 15, 2013 By Steve Hogg Leave a Comment

Earlier today we hosted the annual honor and memorial service for police officers killed in the line of duty. The luncheon was attended by officers from several departments and agencies, as well as community leaders. The speaker was the current Sherriff of Chester County, who retired from SLED after a long and very distinguished career… Read More »

Time Travel

May 11, 2013 By Steve Hogg Leave a Comment

Today Jacqueline and Liam are flying from Italy to Toronto, where they’ll stay for three weeks before coming to Rock Hill. Evan, who’s in the Air Force, begins a six month tour in Qatar in a few days. It’s a nine hour direct flight. Yet they’ll only lose three hours on the clock. They’ll leave… Read More »

Sunday Recap

May 5, 2013 By Steve Hogg Leave a Comment

What happened this morning at FBC? The weather was not “nice.” Rain, wind, and cooler than normal temperatures – especially early in the morning. It showed in today’s attendance – especially in the first service. Two new members. Welcome! The stage remodeling continues. Chairs were rearranged in the worship center, so everyone had to find… Read More »

Redbuds and Dogwoods

May 4, 2013 By Steve Hogg Leave a Comment

“The pollen is really bad. Everything is yellow. But the redbuds and dogwoods are really pretty.” That was how my brother described the scene in Kentucky this morning as he drove to work. He talked about how beautiful the mountains are when everything turns green, but how dreary they can be in the winter. That… Read More »

A Frustrating Experience

April 19, 2013 By Steve Hogg Leave a Comment

I spent yesterday in Gastonia and Lincolnton, NC meeting with bi-vocational and smaller church pastors who are part of a leadership certificate program through Fruitland Baptist Bible Institute. I enjoyed meeting these brothers and hearing their stories. They love the Lord and are faithfully serving Jesus, some doing so after working a 40-50 hour work… Read More »
