Our First Baptist Family of Faith received an award yesterday from the Salvation Army (photograph below) for having more volunteers ring the bell more hours during their annual kettle drive this past Christmas season than any other organization. They told us FBC members did as much as all other groups in our community combined. Way… Read More »
Molasses, Baked Beans, and Fun
I have a few quarts of molasses in the pantry that my mom gets me each year from a cousin back home in the mountains who has an annual stir-off. They’re so good! I used some of that molasses today to sweeten the baked beans I’m making for tomorrow’s picnic at church. I’m convinced molasses… Read More »
Sacrifice Remembered
Yesterday we hosted the 19th Annual Police Honor and Memorial Service luncheon attended by a large crowd of law enforcement officials from several departments and agencies (pictures below). The purpose is to honor the memory of the nine officers who have died in the line of duty in York County over the years and let… Read More »
Egg Hunt is Success
Today’s Community Easter Egg Hunt was a great success. Because of the rain, it was moved indoors: games in the gym and egg hunt in the Apex. About 200 families registered and the kids had a blast. The staff and volunteers were flexible and made the event run as smoothly as possible. See the photographs… Read More »
Easter Invitations
I met a young single mom yesterday while running some errands. She was outgoing, with a ton of personality. She was also excited about her boyfriend and the way he treated her young daughter. Purchasing the Property on Dave Lyle Blvd – Part 1
This Sunday we celebrate 10 years at our Dave Lyle Blvd location and I thought I’d share a few memories and photographs from the past. Our journey started much earlier than 2004. God blessed FBC beyond what we could imagine. In the early 90s we were growing and running out of space for Sunday School… Read More »
Fresh Encounter
About 500 people participated in Fresh Encounter Friday evening and most of Saturday at FBC. Henry and Richard Blackaby did a great job challenging and encouraging us to follow Jesus. Here are some of my favorite quotes from their messages: “What is your focus when you wake up each morning? Do you have excitement about… Read More »
A Fresh Encounter
Tags: Steve Hogg, Fresh Encounter Fresh: “full of or renewed in vigor.” Encounter: “to come upon face-to-face.” The above statements are among the possible definitions of those two words. Now apply those words and definitions to your spiritual life. Imagine having a fresh encounter with God that renews your spiritual life and fills you with… Read More »
The Parking Lot is Clear
“The rain helped, parking lot is clear. We have ice at front drop off but we should have it ready by lunch.” That is the text message I received this morning (Saturday) at 7:20 am from Tony Huffman, our facilities manager. When I rolled out of bed this morning and looked at my iPhone, that… Read More »
